PROPOSALS TABLED [please contact Bob Darling (x2923 or [email protected])]
POL 404 Civil Liberties (tabled 6-0)
1) This proposal was submitted on an incorrect form (FORM 5 is for Alteration of Program).
2) To cross-list this course, the committee needs a course alteration proposal for POL 404 (FORM 2) and a new course proposal for AAS 404 (see Item 3 on p. 17 of the 2007 Curriculum Change Guide). The catalog description of POL 404 must include an Also listed as AAS 404. statement just before the credit hour listing. Likewise, the catalog description for the new course (AAS 404) must include, just before the credit hour listing, the statement Also listed as POL 404.
ICC 301 International Student Seminar (tabled 5-0-1)
1) the first sentence of the catalog description should begin: Facilitates the intellectual
2) the second sentence of the catalog description should begin: Engages students
3) please include: (1 cr. hr.) at the end of the catalog description.
4) list the revised catalog description in the accompanying course outline.
ICC 302 Introduction to Academic Language and University Practices (tabled 5-0-1)
1) please change NOT to not in the first line of the catalog description.
2) the committee feels that this course should not be repeatable for credit. If a student does poorly, they can retake the course (just like any other course) to improve their grade. If a student does well (i.e. completes the goals of the course), then the committee sees no reason for them to repeat it.
3) at the very end of the catalog description, please include (3 cr. hr.)
4) list the revised catalog description in the accompanying course outline.
ICC 303 Academic Vocabulary and Grammar (tabled 5-0-1)
1) please change NOT to not in the first line of the catalog description.
2) in the second line of the catalog description, please replace expands on with compliments and delete developed.
3) delete the spelled out title to ICC 302 in catalog description. ICC 302 is good enough.
4) the committee feels that this course should not be repeatable for credit. If a student does poorly, they can retake the course (just like any other course) to improve their grade. If a student does well (i.e. completes the goals of the course), then the committee sees no reason for them to repeat it.
5) at the very end of the catalog description, please include (1.5 cr. hr.)
6) list the revised catalog description in the accompanying course outline.
ICC 304 Academic Listening and Speaking (tabled 5-0-1)
1) please change NOT to not in the first line of the catalog description.
2) the second line of the catalog description should begin: Emphasizes listening
3) the committee feels that this course should not be repeatable for credit. If a student does poorly, they can retake the course (just like any other course) to improve their grade. If a student does well (i.e. completes the goals of the course), then the committee sees no reason for them to repeat it.
4) at the very end of the catalog description, please include (1.5 cr. hr.)
5) list the revised catalog description in the accompanying course outline.
IST 101 Global Connections Mentor (tabled 5-0-1)
1) at the end of the catalog description, please change (3 cr. hr.) with (1 cr. hr.)
2) ICC 301 and IST 110 are listed as co-requisites. This means that a Global Connections Mentor must enroll in ICC 301 and IST 110. The committee is unclear as to why a mentor must do this. The courses can be offered in tandem as is described in the justification of the prerequisites, but the mentor shouldnt enroll in all three courses. Requiring to attend is not the same as enrolling in the course.
3) the committee feels this course should have the following restriction: Permission of IST Coordinator Please list this on page 1 of the proposal as well as immediately before the credit hour listing in the catalog description of the course.
4) the committee feels the course should be repeatable only once for credit (instead of the 2 listed). At the end of the catalog description, just before the Permission of IST Coordinator statement, please include the following: May be repeatable once for credit.
5) in the first page of the accompanying course outline, under the heading Global Connections Mentor Description, in the second sentence, please change TA to mentor
6) in the second page of the accompanying course outline, under the heading Course Attendance Policy, the students apparently receive no credit for actually meeting with students (this has no percentage value in the grading system). This needs to be clarified if the committee is to consider standard letter grades for the course.
7) list the revised catalog description in the accompanying course outline.
8) Please revise the attached course outline so that it follows the format described in Item 1 on page 17 of the 2007 Curriculum Change Guide.
IST 110 Global Connections TA (tabled 5-0-1)
1) the course title should be changed from Global Connections TA to Global Connections Teaching Assistant.
2) ICC 301 is listed as a co-requisite. This means that a Global Connections Teaching Assistant must enroll in ICC 301. The committee is unclear as to why a TA must do this. The courses can be offered together as is described in the justification of the prerequisites, but the mentor shouldnt enroll in both courses.
5) the committee is hesitant to approve standard letter grades for this course (it appears as if S,U grades are more appropriate). Please provide a more detailed explanation regarding student evaluation (the course outline does not address this).
6) list the revised catalog description in the accompanying course outline.
7) Please revise the attached course outline so that it follows the format described in Item 1 on page 17 of the 2007 Curriculum Change Guide.
